FAQ

I’m going to take this opportunity to explain a few things about this blog that people may have questions about.

About Me

I do not go into many details about myself on my Rink Rat Rants Sports Blog, so please check out my Facebook profile or MySpace pages to find out more information about me.

What sports do I cover?

You will find a wide selection of hockey, minor lacrosse, baseball, ball hockey and other sports of local interest on these pages. Look within the Categories tab on the left side panel to find the team you are searching for. I will also offer periodic sports commentary of general interest to most readers.

Why don’t I cover certain teams/games?

I attend as many games as I can, but unfortunately many games conflict with one another. Since I cannot be in two places at once, it can lead to some tough choices on which games to attend. I try to be fair in my game selection, and do not make any distinction between Rep or House League games, or give any consideration to a team’s performance when deciding which games to write about. I think you can see that I am pretty fair in the regard, giving as many teams as I can nearly equal coverage. Honestly, I personally think that some of my best recaps are done at the House League level, so please read those posts if you get a chance. Players at that level are often looked down upon, but I can assure you that there is no valid reason for this snobbery, based on all the games that I attend each week. While I am disappointed that I rarely see certain teams play (such as our Novice AAA, Minor Atom AAA or Major Atom AAAs), it’s only because of scheduling conflicts with other teams I’ve already committed to announcing in the Main Arena at the same time.

Accuracy

I aim to be as accurate as possible in the reporting of games. I make an equal attempt to identify opposition players and sponsors as I do with the hometown teams. Unfortunately, due to the some teams not having lettered jerseys or up-to-date websites to which I can refer, not to mention the league websites that are often not as current as one would like, this effort is often incomplete. I am more than willing to edit any details in my posts if provided with the correct information.

Blowouts

In the case of blowout games, I often will choose not include full scoring information in my posts. The primary reason for this is that I am unlikely to have identified each scorer or assist-getter, thanks to my less-than-perfect vision (see Disclaimer), but it is also because I do not want to embarrass the losing side by dwelling only on the scoring plays. If a play was exceptional, I will mention it, but otherwise I may choose to gloss over it. After all, it’s quite likely that solid defense and/or goaltending also allowed the winning side to achieve the lopsided victory, at least in my personal view, so I try to mention examples of this as well.

Away Games

I am usually unavailable to attend many away games, either because I have no transportation to the out-of-town games, or because I am busy announcing games that are occurring locally on those nights. If I can determine the results from those games, I will often still try to write brief recaps on this site for those teams. Naturally, because I am not attending these games in person, the recaps are generally shorter and primarily focus on the scoring information and game result and offer little description of the game itself.
