Jean-Vanier volleys it’s way to OFSAA Volleyball title

Proving themselves to be every bit as good as their boy counterparts, the Sr. Girl’s volleyball squad at Jean-Vanier brought home a second OFSAA volleyball title this season to the small Welland high school.

Improving on last season’s bronze-medal performance, the team breezed through the preliminaries defeating Toronto Stephen Lewis, Durham Christian, Woodland and Renfrew’s St. Joseph. The Lynx reached the semi-finals by setting down Marymount 25-15 and 25-20, avenging their loss to them at OFSAA last season.

It took three sets to outlast the defending champion Escale from the Ottawa area, with scores of 25-16, 18-25, and 15-10 giving the Lynx access to the final round against Acton.

The final turned out to be a four-set marathon, with Jean-Vanier capturing the crown on scores of 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, and 25-21.

Congratulations to team members: Rachelle Caruso, Megan Clutterbuck, Stesha Conway, Catherine Fillion, Jillian Garrett, Tia Marchesini, Felicia Morin, Rachel Sellen, Adama Soumah, Jaclyn-Rae Tanguay, Valerie Vocal and Katie Wyatt.  Coaching staff for the champion Lynx were head coach Glen Beauregard and assistant coach Andy Morin.
