Burlington Eagles vs. Welland L.J. Walters Insurance Tigers (Minor Bantam AAA)

The Welland L.J. Walters Insurance Tigers overcame a two-goal deficit to tie the game early in the second period before a brief lapse allowed the Eagles to restore another two-goal lead, which proved to be too much too overcome in an eventual 5-4 loss to the visitors on Friday evening in SCTA Minor Bantam AAA action.

Burlington opened the scoring on a marker from #6 Michael Duarte with helpers being provided on the play by #15 Tyler MacLean and #2 Dylan Sneider.  The Eagles extended their lead at 8:09 of the middle frame on a goal from #17 Wesley Glove that was set up by #9 Joshua Anderson and #14 Jonah Dwyer.

Welland struck back twice, only twelve seconds apart, as #11 Denis Creighton tallied from #9 Brett Larocque and #17 Morgan Lavoie at 10:41 and Larocque redirected passes from #4 Drake Nadeau and #19 Cole McKnight past Burlington netminder #1 Spencer Peacock at 10:53.

Burlington turned the tide by replying with a tandem of quick strikes themselves, with MacLean beating #1 Korey Bedard at 11:37, from #4 Jonathan Moore and Anderson and then #5 Scott Carnegie finding the mesh at 11:56 from #3 Matthew Dorey and Moore for a 4-2 advantage.

Larocque bolstered the Tigers hopes with a power-play tally from Creighton at 5:34 of the third, but the Eagles once again restored the two-goal buffer on a goal from Anderson at 10:58 from Dwyer and MacLean.  #7 Kevin Rotter deposited the puck into the Burlington net at 14:49 from Nadeau and Larocque, but the Tigers came up short in the 5-4 final, falling to 8-13-8 on the season.

Welland was 1-for-3 with the man-advantage Friday, while not facing any short-handed situations themselves during the contest.  The team travels to Chesley on Saturday afternoon to take on the Grey-Bruce Highlanders before returning home to face Halton at home on Wednesday evening.
