Guelph Jr. Storm Cooperators vs. Welland All-Star Sportswear Tigers (Minor Midget AAA)

The Welland All-Star Sportswear Tigers heavily out-shot the visiting Guelph Jr. Storm Cooperators, but could not hang on for the win, despite holding the lead twice in this match-up.

The Tigers, who outshot Gueph 34-16 overall, took the lead at 2:47 of the first period on a goal by #16 Josh Williams, assisted by #9 Tanner Pagendam and #11 Braden Curry.  The Jr. Storm would equalize the game, with #20 Robert Bartosziewisz scoring on passes from #2 Tim Redwood and #9 Ian Bryant at 11:55 of the opening period.

After a scoreless second stanza that saw Welland outshoot Guelph 10-6, the Tigers would pull ahead 2-1 on a power-play  marker from #14 Doug Steers that was unassisted at 7:15 of the third.  Guelph would “storm” right back to tie the game by beating Welland netminder #30 Vincent Quaranta only 34 seconds later at 7:49.  #22 Blair Goss would net the game-tying goal from Bartosziewicz and #19 Peter Soligo.

#7 Martin Kudla would record the game-winning goal at 15:56 of the final frame from #10 Luke Reinhart and Goss to give the visitor’s the 3-2 victory.

Welland’s powerplay was 1-for-6 on the evening while Guelph was 1-for-1 with the man-advantage.  #30 Vincent Quaranta patrolled the crease for Welland, while #35 Chris Wilford was between the pipes for Guelph.  Welland now has a 6-25-2 season record with just three games remaining before playoffs.  After facing Brampton and Halton on the road later this week, the Tigers return home to face the Niagara Falls Thunder next Monday in their last regular-season contest.
