Thorold Blackhawks vs. Welland Internet Access Worldwide Tigers (Minor Midget A)
The Welland Internet Access Worldwide Tigers came up short in their comeback bid, losing 8-5 to the visiting Thorold Blackhawks after being down by five goals at two separate points during the contest. Thorold opened up the scoring at 6:52 of the first period as #5 Trevor Hebert scored, assisted by #17 Jared McInnis and #7 Jesse Anthony. McInnis would put his team up 2-0 on an unassisted short-handed marker at 8:48 of the period. The Tigers would cut the lead in half at 4:27 of the second when #10 Robert Fraser scored from Jackson Larouche.
The Blackhawks would capitalize on a power-play to pull ahead 3-1 at 12:06, as #44 Kyle Collins would tally from #27 Justin Goodwill and #16 Todd Wood. Thorold would then score a second short-handed goal on the evening when Jesse Anthony lit the lamp at 13:10 for a 4-1 advantage. Collins would net his second with only forty-six seconds left in the middle frame on helpers from Hebert and Wood.
The visitors would make it 6-1 at 2:14 of the final period when McInnis scored, assisted by Anthony and #9 Alex Venditti. The Tigers would add one with the man-advantage at 3:14 when #7 Josh Iannatuono beat #29 Kevin Anderson to make it 6-2. Collins responded with his third of the night at 3:42 before Fraser potted his second of the evening from #8 Spencer Gilles and Iannatuono. The power-play would click once more for the home side as #11 Brandon Cassar would tally from #9 Alex Lafontaine and #19 Tyler Borgatti at 12:44. The same trio would combine on the next score, with Lafontaine finding the mesh from Borgatti and Cassar at 13:02. Iannatuono would close out the scoring with seven seconds remaining by draining his second of the game.
Thorold was 1-for-2 with the man-advantage while Welland went 2-for-8 on the night with the extra attacker. The Tigers face Port Colborne on the road Tuesday evening before returning home to battle St. Catharines on Friday night.
