Grimsby’s Boston Pizza Classic Tournament, January 3-6, 2008

The Welland Lions Club Tigers roared to life in the opening game of the Grimsby Boston Pizza Classic, shutting out the host Peach Kings 6-0 on the strength of two goals by #11 Liam Pouliot and singles by #18 Sam Leclair, #14 Brodie Thoms, #19 Connor Jolliffe and #17 Joshua Croteau. #30 Gage Rockwell would earn his second shutout of the season with a steady performance between the pipes.  However, two losses to the Burlington Eagles would prevent the Tigers from advancing beyond the round-robin portion of the tournament, as the Tigers fell to the Eagles by scores of 4-2 and 9-2.  Leclair would net three of the four goals scored during these two games, while Jolliffe would net the other. Welland would once again breakout the offensive parade in a 8-8 tie with Owen Sound, with #16 Dawson Silenzi and Croteau each scoring a pair of goals and #8 Nicholas Paroshy, Pouliot, Jolliffe and Thoms each finding the mesh once, to end their tournament on a high note.  The Tigers will now return to Grimsby to face the Peach Kings as they resume regular season play on January 8.
