West Lincoln McCollum Transport Ltd. Wrath vs. Welland Rose City Pizzeria Tigers

The Welland Rose City Pizzeria Tigers felt the wrath of both the West Lincoln McCollum Transport Ltd. Wrath and the game officials, in a 4-2 penalty-filled defeat at home Wednesday evening.

Welland took the early game lead on a goal 1:56 after the opening faceoff, with #11 Jordan Hopkins scoring from #2 David Lostracco and #16 Adam Bedetti.  West Lincoln would reply at 4:43 of the period when #16 slid one through the pads of #1 Derek D’Angelo on a pass from #12.

The Wrath would convert on a short-handed marker at 5:47 when #7 would bang home a rebound, assisted by #6.  #1 D’Angelo would be pulled in favour of #30 Doug Pirson at this point, after looking shaky in the early moments of the contest.

Welland would enjoy a 5-on-3 powerplay for 1:06, but were unable to record the tying marker until 11:05 of the period when #14 Mark Cupola found the back of the Wrath net, assisted by #3.  West Lincoln responded at 14:31, on the powerplay, when #2 ripped a shot into the right corner while skating down the left wing.

The Tigers would find themselves down five men to three for 1:17 in the second frame, and West Lincoln would quickly take advantage.  #8 notched the powerplay tally from #20 and #16 for a 4-2 Wrath lead at 3:26 of the middle period.  Welland would then face a second sitution down five skaters to three for 1:30 moments later, but were able to successfully fight these penalties off without further damage.  Due to their extensive time in the sin bin, the Tigers did not record their first shot on net of the period until the 9:40 mark.

There was no scoring during the final 20 minutes of play, in large part due to the parade to the penalty box by members of both teams.  West Lincoln would outshoot the Tigers 44-12 during the game, and would convert on 2-of-9 powerplay situations, with the Tigers going 0-for-6 in the game with the extra attacker.
