Grimsby vs. Welland (12/8)
Grimsby Allen J. Wynperle Barrister & Solicitor Peach Kings vs. Welland Boston Pizza Tigers
The winning ways of the Welland Boston Pizza Tigers continued Saturday evening, blanking the visiting Grimsby Allen J. Wynperle Barrister & Solicitor A/E Peach Kings by a 4-0 score in Minor Peewee A play.
#30 Chris McGregor recorded his first shutout of the season as his teammates provided a lot of offensive and defensive support in front of him in another superior total team effort. After playing a scoreless first period, the Tigers got on the board six-and-a-half minutes into the middle frame when #8 Brandon Porga lit the lamp behind Peach King netminder #1.
Welland would quickly strike again, with #12 Tyler Robbins connecting on passes from #10 Nick Briggs and #18 Jackson Charles for a two goal advantage less than a minute later. Robbins used his great speed to create another fantastic scoring chance five minutes into the third, but was thwarted on the play by an excellent stop from the Grimsby goaltender. Nonetheless, Robbins would collect three points on the night along with teammate #10 Briggs. Robbins would score twice and assist once, while teammate Briggs would provide three helpers. #8 Porga and #18 Charles would net the other Tigers goals in the homeside victory, with #18 Charles scoring with 1:15 left to play in the game on a superb pass from behind the net off the stick of Robbins.
Welland now has a 12-3-2 record heading into Monday night’s match against the Niagara-on-the-Lake Wolves on the road.
