Port Colborne Buckner’s Source for Sports Sailors vs. Welland Bob Robinson Construction Tigers

The winning ways of the Welland Bob Robinson & Son Construction Tigers continued on Wednesday evening versus the visiting Port Colborne Buckner’s Source for Sports Sailors, as they downed the Sailors 10-2 in Major Peewee A action. The Tigers have only one loss in their past 10 regular season games.

#16 Makenzie Simon jumpstarted the offense Wednesday, scoring only 0:55 seconds into the game, as he walked out from behind the Sailors net to find the left-side of the net completely open, easily scoring to put the Tigers ahead 1-0. #17 Adam Barron’s superb pass in the neutral zone to #2 Parker Hayward, sent Hayward and #7 Dylan Nadeau in all alone at 4:46 of the first period, and Hayward slipped a beautiful pass over to Nadeau, who made no mistake in putting the puck past Sailors netminder #1 Demers.

#9 Kyle Patterson jammed the puck into the right side of the net at 5:48 for a three-goal home advantage before Simon scored his second of the game, on passes from #14 Janson Lapalme and #15 Kurtis Borgatti at 6:04. #12 Jacob Duguay converted a great cross-crease pass from #19 Nathan Anderson for a 5-0 Tigers lead at 7:29 before Lapalme tallied 26 seconds later in the period.

Barron fired from long-range at 6:57 of the second finding the left side of the goal, assisted by Simon, before Anderson put home a wrap-around at 10:01 of the period, and then lit the lamp again 19 seconds later, chasing Demers from the net until the start of the third period when he would return to finish the game.

#1 Matt Bosnich was tested twice at 6:47 of the third period, making two incredible back-to-back saves on point-blank opportunities from #16 and #11 of the Sailors. Port Colborne’s #12 would spoil #1 Bosnich’s shutout bid at 9:14 of the period, before Barron replied with a power-play marker for the Tigers with 1:09 remaining in the game, making good on a pass from #8 Carson Lynds. The Sailors would solve Bosnich once again, as #16 found the back of the Tiger’s net with only 29.9 seconds left to play, skating in on a 2-0n-0 break.

The Tigers played a penalty-free game, while converting on 1-of-2 powerplay opportunities during the game. Welland outshot Port Colborne by a 42-14 margin. The Tigers now face two road contests against the Wainfleet Wild and Niagara-on-the-Lake Wolves before returning home to take on the West Lincoln Wrath next Friday evening.
