Port Colborne vs. Welland (12/1)
Port Colborne Hard Rock Paving Sailors vs. Welland Young’s Insurance Tigers
The Welland Young’s Insurance Tigers earned a difficult 1-1 tie against the visiting Port Colborne Hard Rock Paving Sailors in Saturday evening’s Major Bantam A game at the Welland Main Arena.
After #7 Riley Montgomery opened the scoring for the visiting Sailors at 4:56 of the first period, the game remained 1-0 for the visitors until the 2:23 mark of the third period when #16 Ryan “Bubba” Dakin, a call-up from the Welland Minor Bantam A Lifestyle Financial Tigers, scored to tie the game. Earlier in the game, at 12:53 #16 Dakin had an excellent chance to score off a great set-up by #17 Billy Young, but the Sailor’s netminder #30 came up with an even more impressive save.
Another call-up from the Minor Bantam A Tigers, #12 Nicholas Beaudoin, played well as part of a very solid defensive effort from everyone on the blueline. Injured Tigers forward #7 Ivan Plamondon is expected to return to action in early January.
The game was ended by curfew with 2:19 left to play. Neither team could strike with either of their two man-advantage situations during the contest. Port Colborne outshot Welland 31-23, with Welland netminder #2 Dylan Tait putting in a solid performace, as expected, for the home side.
The Tigers have a record of 6-4-1 heading into their next game against the Merritton Bulldogs on the road Thursday evening.
