Grey-Bruce Dan Rear Lawn Service Highlanders vs. Welland Mountainview Homes Tigers (Major Peewee AAA)
#1 Braeden Thoms may have recorded the 7-0 shutout victory on Saturday afternoon against the Grey-Bruce Dan Rear Lawn Service Highlanders, but it was Highlander’s netminder #46 Tristan Whitley who stole the spotlight. Outshot by a 42-8 margin, the Highlanders netminder made one incredible save after another to earn the respect of all the Welland fans in attendance as well as those of his own team.
In the end it was the 14-2 Welland Mountainview Homes Tigers that proved that they were just too much to be tamed on this day, taking the victory on two goals by #18 Hunter Garlent and singles by #10 Anthony Difruscia, #17 Zach Olsson, #19 Ben Leishman, #9 Hunter Salomons and #14 Tyler Jackson. Helpers were provided on the goals by #15 Jack Fitzgerald and Difruscia.
Difruscia’s goal came on the power-play with 25 seconds remaining in the second period, putting the Tigers at 1-for-5 with the man advantage during the game. The Tigers successfully burned off the two minor penalties they were assessed in this convincing win.
