Fort Erie Dave Lyons Chevrolet/Fort Erie Comfort Inn Meteors vs. Welland MT Bellies Tigers (Minor Atom A)

After keeping the Fort Erie Dave Lyons Chevrolet/Fort Erie Comfort Inn Meteors from registering a shot on net during the opening period, the Welland MT Bellies Tigers found themselves down by a goal in the second period and had to score twice in the final frame to earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory on home ice in Saturday’s Minor Atom A action at the Welland Youth Arena.

Welland netminder #30 Riley Radebanko did not see any work come his way during the first 10 minutes of action as his Tigers teammates shut down the Meteors in front of him, outshooting them 7-0 in the first period of play. #19 Lee Nichols got the Tigers on the board on a pass from #18 Doyle Groulx at 4:40 of the period to stake the home side to a one goal lead.

Fort Erie’s #7 Krieser put the Meteors on the scoreboard at 1:42 of the second, scoring on the team’s second shot on net of the game. The Meteors then pulled ahead at 6:06 of the third when #9 took a pass from #15 that wound up behind #1 Raymond Romaniuk, who took over between the pipes for Welland with just less than four minutes left to play in the middle period.

The Tigers capitalized on a fifty-one second 5-on-3 man advantage in the final period to pull out the come-from-behind win. #19 Nichols scored at 11:00, before the first penalty had elapsed to tie the game at one. #11 Caleb Ambrosio then netted the game-winner on assists from #6 Jeremy Briggs and #5 to convert during the second half of the powerplay.

The Tigers were 2-for-3 during the game while on the power-play and successfully killed off the only penalty they were assessed. Welland outshot Fort Erie by a 31-13. margin. With the victory the Tigers improve 10-4.0 heading into a rematch with Fort Erie on Sunday afternoon.
