Thorold Front Row Sports Blackhawks vs. Welland Herbal Magic Tigers (Major Atom A)

The Welland Herbal Magic Tigers cruised to a 7-1 victory tonight over the visiting Thorold Front Row Sports Blackhawks in Major Atom A action at the Welland Youth Arena. #19 Dalton Kanyo put the Tigers ahead on the power-play at 5:06 of the opening period by converting on a pass from #8 Nicholas Sacco.

Thorold tied the game only 0:57 into the second period, when #15 Tyler Paone scored what would be their only goal of the contest. The Tigers then reeled off six unanswered goals to defeat the Blackhawks for the third time this season. #5 Sean Thompson scored his first of two on the night at the 8:13 mark of the second, assisted by #15 Nicholas Fitzgerald and #2 Dylan Hanson. #14 Josh Wood followed up twelve seconds later by making good on a behind-the-net feed from #6 Devin Ferri for the game’s prettiest goal and a 3-1 Tigers’ advantage.

The Tigers continued to control the play in the third, with #9 Parker Woods scoring on a helper from #15 Fitzgerald at 3:52. #5 Thompson then tallied from #12 Joseph Bellantino and #1 Isaac Ricard at 6:30. #19 Kanyo netted his second of the game at 11:31 from #5 Thompson and #8 Sacco before #8 Sacco closed out the scoring.

While Welland goaltender #1 Isaac Ricard had a relatively easy night, the same cannot be said of his counterpart, Blackhawks tender #30 Dax Goodhew, who put in a yeoman’s effort, but had little help in front of him to ease his burden tonight. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 11-3-0 on the season. The team will next hit the ice a week from tonight when they host the Port Colborne Sailors at 6:50pm.
