The Welland Lions Club Tigers represented their city well this weekend with a fine showing in the Thorold Beaverloch Farms tournament, despite a couple key players missing from their lineup. In addition to winning a league game in dominating fashion at home on Friday evening in the midst of their tournament play, the Tigers compiled a 2-2 record in the round-robin portion of the Thorold tournament. After opening the tournament with a 4-1 loss to the eventual champion, Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, the Tigers then defeated Riverside by a 6-4 score. The Tigers’ other loss came at the hands of the other tournament finalist, Cobourg, who edged them 4-3 before they ended their tournament on a high note with a 7-3 victory over the tournament hosts, the Thorold Blackhawks.
